The year 2007 arrived in Montevideo with a bang. Many, many bangs and some booms too. The highlight of the evening was when the neighbors across the street tried launching their bottle rockets after sticking them very securely in moist soil. Out of about ten attempts three left the ground before exploding. One of the three took off across the Rambla chasing the lone car driving down the road and blew up on impact. Luckily the car remained in tact though it is unknown whether or not its passengers made it to their destination without wetting their pants.
